I am a third-year student currently studying Digital Design at the University of Colorado Denver. This summer, I am planning to study abroad in Denmark though the Scandinavian by Design international program.
Scandinavia is worldwide known as one of Europe’s modern design capitals. Between WWI and WWII, designers with a shared interest and desire for modernity and innovation in design joined together to develop a new era of design. Today, practices of innovated design in Scandinavia are deeply imbedded in the countries cultural identity and highly valued as part of everyday life. They have found that design can improve quality of life both locally and globally. Designers, architects, scientist and government social institutions collaborate to deter to find creative solutions to human problems.
I have always shared a strong interest in the creation of new experiences and finding solutions to problems through design. For me, the exploration of new ideas and directions is the fundamental driving engine. Traveling to a different country and being in a new city will provide me with a new challenge, an irreplaceable learning opportunity, and expand my cultural perspective. Scandinavian by Design will give me the unique opportunity to connect with people, across the world, who share a common passion for design. Many languages and visual clues found in design are deeply grounded in countries cultural context. When designing for a global audience, it is important to know how a message can be interpreted. I believe that the Scandinavian by Design program will help me broaden my knowledge of effective communication through design and the creation of a better and more inclusive user experience in my work.
