Years ago, as a student at Howard University, a slight interest in photography evolved into something deeper. This unexpected journey which started in 2007, led me, the trained dancer, to untie my dancing shoes and to be led by the intrinsic rhythm I found behind the lens of my camera to reach for unforeseen borders. I have always had a fascination with fine arts.  I was inspired by such individuals as Michael Platt and the late Harlee Little who mentored me not only in the arts but in life, propelling me to receive my Bachelors in Fine Arts from Howard University in 2009.  Through each of my shoots, I captured a moment in time from them, but a passage of self-discovery for myself.  This passage of self-discovery has created a hunger and a passion inside of me to explore what the world has to offer to enhance my educational experience and become proficient in my craft.

Fully equipped with a camera, joy and an expectation to excel, I was recently accepted into Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Lacoste, a residential program providing the opportunity to travel to France as part of the Lacoste artist-in-residence program. I will be traveling to Lacoste, France on June 27 and returning in 8weeks. The trip features firsthand experiences at world renowned festivals, visits to famed historic locations and close encounters with some of the most famous works of art ever created.

As a student finishing my first year of graduate studies at SCAD, studying at the Lacoste campus will enable me the unique opportunity to live, learn and create art in a supportive environment rich with culture and history. The campus facilities are located in Lacoste, a beautifully preserved medieval village of about 300 inhabitants in a Provence, in the south of France. Perched on steep hillside, the school buildings date back to the 12th, 15th and 16th centuries.

This opportunity will only become a reality if I am able to raise the funding to cover the costs not covered by scholarship, and that’s where you come in! A financial contribution of any amount will get me one step closer to this once in a lifetime opportunity.  Be of great cheer because your kind gesture will not leave you empty handed; based on the amount you contribute, you’ll be eligible to receive the following:

  • I've accomplished so much in my past, but my future is still unwritten . . . After getting accepting into SCAD, to participating in RAW: Artist Atlanta, having my very first solo photo exhibit, and then premiering my first photography book Thirteen Moments, MY NEXT MILESTONE is Lacoste, France. My future is determined by the next steps that I take in the present. Help me take the right ones in the right direction.
