Study-abroad in a non-profit program “Chateau Vert”

I am Fenya Konovaloff, baker and chef at Russian Doll Bakery and Catering, and I specialize in modern recipes and international cuisines. Recently, I was offered the opportunity to work with French Pastry and Master Chefs in France. This months-long program will advance my skills as a chef by learning from culinary experts allowing me to experience the finest the art of the culinary world has to offer. Chateau Vert International , a 501 (c) 3 non-profit study-abroad trade program (www.chateauvertintl.org), has offered me a position to be a part of their program while expanding my own culinary knowledge by preparing menus, cooking meals for staff, and teaching young Americans (ages 14-18} how to cook French cuisine.

65% of children coming out of foster care end up homeless. Less the 6% go to college. Chateau Vert is dedicated to helping these foster children receive the attention, mentoring, education and support they desperately need to successfully transition into adulthood. At a 17th century French chateau, these vulnerable young adults are taught back-to-basics life and marketable skills. The aim of the program is to prepare these young adults for better paying, long term jobs and help them build character with qualities such as confidence, patience, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, discipline and the pursuit of excellence.  I am so honored to be a part of this program and look forward to bringing back everything I learn and sharing it with my community.

In my endeavor to take advantage of this amazing opportunity, I am seeking financial sponsors to help me manage the expenses of the program.  On Saturday, June 1, 2013 5:30 pm I will be hosting a fundraising dinner at 1123 S. Cactus, Rialto CA.  My goal is to raise enough money to cover my travel and expenses to France. 

Since Russian Doll Bakery and Catering opened I have assisted and consulted the staff of a popular local Italian Restaurant sharing my passion for food, and catered a number of private events in Orange County. I was featured as a success story in the Riverside County Community Help to Succeed Program and received a Woman of the Month award for volunteering in my local community.
