Campaign Story
This year, my Environmental Science and Chemistry students will be working hard to create a more sustainable environment within our high school. These kids will use a program called Ecoschool, which will put school buildings through rigorous audits to find ways to improve our ecological footprint. One of the major contributions to our school's impact on the environment is the total lack of health products available for community use. To solve this problem, the kids at my eco-school will be growing hydroponic products in their classes to support healthy lifestyles and more environmentally friendly habits. The hydroponic gardening system I requested will provide students with a safe and reliable place to grow produce on our campus. These gardens will be used year after year to support our sustainable food gardens. My students researched the project entirely on their own. They develop leadership and public speaking skills, explore their ecological footprint, drive their project-based learning, and so on. Their understanding of the effects of their personal environment has greatly increased. Supporting the project will support fully student-led, student-led environmental goals that will help foster environmentally conscious citizens for future generations.
