Student nurse experience in Phillippines

My name is Chelsea, I am 19 years old and currently studying in Jersey to be a Nurse. Since leaving school, I have already obtained my BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care which is a two year course and ever since I can rememver, I have always wanted to persue a career in nursing

Having always lived in Jersey (9 by 5 miles, a small island in the Channel Islands), I have been given the opportunity to gain valuable nursing experience in the Philippines next year as part of my second year studies.

As I am currently in full-time education, it is very difficult for me to continue my studies whilst at the same time working and saving for this unique experience. I do however work at a local supermarket throughout the holidays and whenever my work load allows, but saving this huge amount of money is proving to be a challenge.

If I'm able to save the £4000 by July 2017, this will pay for all accomodation, flights, insurance, and living expences for the 4 week period.

This nursing experience will provide me with an insight into nursing practices in the Philippines, whilst using limited resources. Witnessing first-hand illnesses and medical cases which I would not have the opportunity to see in Jersey.

My heart and roots belong in Jersey as generations of my family before me. I wish to stay on this beautiful island and give back to the community what they have given to me over the years. I want to be a nurse more than anthing else having watched close family members recieve quality nursing at times of illness and need. It was this care and these individuals who made me realise how important health care is.

It would mean the world to me to take this opportunity, should I be lucky enough to raise the required funds.
