Student Mental Health Society

Hi! I'm an undergraduate student at a university in Nottingham. A group of us are trying to put together a "student mental health society", because mental health and well-being is of paramount importance & it can be extremely difficult to get through University life without some form of mental distress, anxiety or even depression. N.U.S. found that 92% of students reported times of mental distress, 74% of these were on more than one occasion.In my experience, I found it easier to talk to people my own age, experiencing similar emotions and circumstances, than a doctor or proffessional. I want to create a support group for students struggling with any form of mental distress at University, and hopefully shed a little bit of light and positivity in all of their lives.The "committee" are trying extremely hard to get the student union to back us, and make us an official society, but have so far not prevailed. And even when they do, it's doubtful that we will get funding like other societies and sports teams to hold events.It's been very hard trying to organise events for these people from our own pocket. Furthermore, some of them post on our Facebook page about how they're feeling, which is great because it means they have a "safe space" to talk, however, we think that some may be reluctant because there is no anonymity to facebook. We would like to create our own website, for the students at our University, so that they can speak anonymously, and more openly in the hope of getting the support they need. Some people are too scared to voice their emotions, this may be the break that they need.We would really appreciate any donations that can help us to help these students come together, and be able to talk about their feelings, and know that they are supported and not alone.Thank you! :)
