student loan debt

Seriously in debt with student loan. I owe some where in the neighborhood of 30,000 dollars. I paid on it for 5 years, then I lost my job. It went into default and now collections. Almost 10,000 was paid on it, but for some reason it is now more then the initial amount. I desperately want to go back to school since my degree from ITT is worthless and I cannot get a job with my degree. I just want it out of default so I can enter back into the work force and pay it off.
