HELP! At this time, I understand the depth of concern that the world has for the corona virus pandemic. We are all affected by this and have fallen on hard times. I'm an American citizen who, like many others, are living in Asia and have been employed as an English teacher. I've been living in Vietnam since October of 2019. Working in the schools, teaching the children, has been an absolute joy. However, we have been struck hard by this outbreak and things have gone seriously downhill since mid January. After having a 2 week vacation for Tet holiday (Same as Chinese Lunar New Year) we all (teachers) came back to our homes and expected to go back to work and start to earn money again. Well, due to circumstances, that didn't happen. Furthermore, this pandemic has been more than anyone expected because while schools were initially closed on a temporary basis, the threat and further spread of the virus has caused schools to close for the remainder of the school year. All public schools have shifted to online classes and the concern for students is for them to finish their required Vietnamese studies. This has caused all foreign teachers to lose employment and have no promise of returning to any kind of employment until next school year. This pandemic was unexpected and, as I mentioned earlier, has affected all of us. Some people are being affected more than others, myself included.

These times have struck me as hard as some others and maybe not as hard as some. I'm about to lose my housing, my company is holding my passport because of money they have lent me previously and with businesses, shops and services all now ordered to close by the Vietnamese government, I'm stuck. My company had agreed to lend me additional funds to make it through the entirety of the month, but have now rescinded that and left me high and dry. We've basically been led along, kept at bay and then had the carpet pulled out from under us.

Right now, I'm about to lose my apartment, don't have documents or funds to be able to even return back home and while I do have the prospect of a job in another country, that's a situation that is a long shot because of all government required closures. Sadly, I come here with my hat in hand, looking for the kindness and generosity of those out there. Those maybe a little more fortunate, to extend a helping hand. I know there are many out there who are in the same position. Speaking with my friends here in Asia, we are all in similar situations, some a little better off than others. I know that my livelihood is not the responsibility of any other person, but in a time of serious need, I'm hoping that there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm asking, pleading, hoping that some of you out there will be able to aid in my time of desperation. I'm trying to decide and weigh out the options of staying here, moving to another place with a prospect of a job or going back home. The well has run dry and after being left in the cold by my company making a promise and agreement to lend me a certain amount of money then pulling that back and leaving me on my own, I am out of options. I have no choice but to turn here, to friends, to family and to other kind souls in the world. Please, I am asking for anything, any kind of help you can provide, as it all does make a different. The smallest of donations still puts me one step closer to being able to have a roof over my head, food to eat and even to get me out of the place with no opportunity to bring me back home to family and loves ones where I can be given shelter until things return to normal.

I thank all of you in advance for your kindness in taking the time to read my story and the consideration of doing something to help someone a bit less fortunate in this time of need.
