Hi, I am Stuart Hawk. I am 14 years of age and I am currently fund-raising for a volunteer, mission expedition to the HIMALAYAS in July 2017. It will be a four-week expedition and will include community development work. My team and I will arrive in Delhi before heading north through the KulluValley into the town of Manali, situated in the Indian Himalayas.
One of the tasks set by World Challenge (the expedition leader) is to do fundraising and get donations hence the post you are reading.
We will be carrying out practical project work in schools, which involves construction and cultural work that is of benefit to the local villages and we will also be able to interact with the villagers and children. We will also be trekking in the Himalayas, and visit traditional Buddhist ‘gompas’ (monasteries).
I have dreamt of an expedition such as this, because I have been fascinated by the Mark Twain quote which reads: “In religion, India is the only millionaire - the One land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for all the shows of all the rest of the globe combined.” It just enchanted me from the moment I read it and with your help I will be able to understand what Mark Twain was really writing about.
What do I hope to learn from this expedition? I look forward to experiencing the Indian culture, learn about their customs and traditions and with the work in the villages, I look forward to do my bit to give back to society.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
