Struggling to raise legal fees for defense

Earlier this year, me and my wife were involved in a contractual dispute with a renovator. We realized that we were misrepresented but it was too late as the other party is suing us instead. Unless we pay for our legal fees, we are going to lose our case.

Now the other party is suing us for failing to honour the contract. We realized that we had been misrepresented in the contract. We were too naive in believing what the other party told us then. It was all too late now as we experienced disappointment and lies.

We had seeked help from the Small Claims but before we can have our case heard, the other party who has a stronger financial background, filed a lawsuit against us. We have no choice but to withdraw our case and prepare to defend in the lawsuit, else we have to pay for the damages amount claimed against us.

Small Claims is a cheaper and faster avenue to settle any disputes at low cost without involving expensive legal fees.
For people like us, it is the best avenue to seek justice. However knowing that we are financially weak, the other party has denied us access to affordable legal support instead of settling our dispute in Small Claims.

So what now for us?

Do we give in to the tyrant claim against us and prove to our future generation that there is no hope for the poor, or do we hold on firmly to our rights and believe for justice despite being financially weak? Do we give in to lies and be silent about it, or do we speak up and stand up against Goliath. We do not know how long the fight will last and what the outcome will be. But what I definitely know is that I want to fight for my rights and let justice prevails even though the legal and supporting document fees seem far beyond our reach - a mammoth sum of USD$13,000. We want to give it a try and defend ourselves and plead for your support. Please help us in our standing against injustice.
