My name is Tara and my Mom is Tracy Smith and we're from Cape Town, South Africa. My mom unfortunately had a massive stroke at work on the 26th of February this year. Her road to recovery has been long, daunting, stressful and emotional, but also a blessing because she's alive and making progress. However , we still have a very long way to go.
Her stroke lead to her being temporarily paralyzed in the right side of her body, because she had a left sided stroke. This meant that she was/is unable to walk, talk and be mobile for quite sometime, however, she made us proud and recently started moving her right leg and is now pushing herself to finally start walking again. She is still unable to communicate or move her right arm and this has taken a knock on her spirit.
I am an only child, aged 22 and my mom, only 42, has never married. I also recently graduated in April which she was unable to attend as she was still in the rehabilitation centre at that time. She is finally home after 3 months.Because I'm her only dependent and aside from her siblings, the only one she can rely on at the moment , I am unable to find a job within my profession, as she needs full time care. Both of her parents had passed in 2017 & 2018. Because of her condition, she needs constant and consistent therapy to regain both mobility and speech and is the main purpose of this fund. Because of her condition, her job is unable to provide a stipend for her , which makes the whole process a lot harder and she is not on any medical aid scheme.
But she is determined and so are we as a family. My aim and hope is to help and assist her through this process as best as I can and in such a way that she need not feel guilty or worry and just focus on her recovery. We appreciate any donations, prayers and messages that could support her cause and hope that our story can bring more awareness and sympathy to the cause. Kind regards and Stay blessed. Tara x
