I am from Greece, where our street cats are having a hard life. They need to scavenge for food, sleep outside in all weather conditions and are very vulnerable to disease, being poisoned or hit by cars. Unfortunately the Greek government hasn't been able to deal with this serious problem and street animals depend entirely on volunteers. I am therefore trying to raise money to have as many male cats as possible sterilised in my neighbourhood in the city of Heraklion in Crete. After sterilisation they will be released from where they were taken. Sterilisation is a minor procedure for them and they recover from any pain or discomfort within 24 hours. In addition to the cost of sterilisation which is around 35 euros for each cat, the money raised will go towards medicine, transport to and from the vet, and cat food. In this way, I hope to play my part in stopping the never-ending cycle of reproduction of street cats and at the same time give an incentive to other residents to raise money and act similarly.
