This time last year, I left the best job I've ever had. My time at Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in Taos, NM impacted me greatly. My coworkers, volunteers, and the animals I encountered every day taught me what dedication, compassion, and sacrifice truly look like. Times being what they are, and the nature of the work being what it is, shelters like Stray Hearts will always need more than they have and unfortunately, many of the dogs and cats I knew a year ago are still there today.
Seeing as the holiday season is upon us, I'd like to ask you all to consider donating to Stray Hearts. Any amount will help. Not only do the animals need to be fed, cared for, and rehabilitated, but I can tell you that people who work in animal shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries are a special breed. They work so hard and use their hearts so much. It is not an easy gig and while it is rewarding, it is also exhausting.
All I want for Christmas is for everyone at Stray Hearts (with two legs or four) to be cared for. And because I can't be there myself to clean the kennels, take Bailey out to the yard, and help chase down the occasional feral cat, I'm asking for your help. Any little bit will make a big difference.
Thank you, and happy holidays.
