Straw is the difference between life and death to an outdoor dog in the winter. An insulated dog house offers protection from the elements, straw offers warmth. Straw has to be changed out every 2-4 weeks depending on the dog. Some will kick it out, some will bed down harder on the straw. Each dog house uses between 1/2 to 3/4 of a bale of straw for maximum warmth. Our projection is to go through 300 bales of straw this month, January and 250 bales in February. We did just purchase 100 bales yesterday Jan. 4th, and this will be completley used up for our west Detroit outreach in one week. Currently straw is running between $3.50 and $4.00 a bale depending on availability. The bill yesterday was $381.50. We are reaching out to all of you to help us purchase the needed straw to keep our dogs warm through these brutal and snowy winter months. Every donation helps. For every $4.00 donated one dog house is stuffed.
