Stiffboard Slicks: A Deceptive Card Game

Players slug it out in a card game of psychology and luck.

Old Maid on Steroid!
Cheat Your Way to Victory!

STORY

In the near future, the world became a post-apocalyptic landscape of dread and suffering. Out of the pain, the City of Hope emerged. Survivors fight for a better life by participating in the life-or-death game of Stiffboard Slicks; a deceptive card game that combines many elements from the long-lost card games of the past. Winners will be given access to the luxurious life in the City of Hope whereas losers will be punished with a game of Russian Roulette.

BASIC OVERVIEW

You win the game either by collecting all five of the DAMNATION cards or by catching another player with at least one DAMNATION card in hand. Along the way, you will have various Miracle cards and Skill cards to help you achieve the goal (and to ruin other people's goal). Not to mention that you will have your very own customizable Cheat Deck. This game is a test of luck, critical thinking, and management, and deck building skills when you are given a limited resource. You can cooperate with other players or you can go Lone Wolf McQuade on 'em all the way. Whatever your choices are, you are in for a fun time. This set also includes a variant called The Punishment Mode; which can be used as a companion for party games Balloon Roulette or Beer Roulette.

Disclaimer:

The Punishment Mode might not be suitable for people below the age of 21.

DEVELOPMENT

May 24th, 2019 to June 2nd, 2019

At this time, I was still toying with the idea of creating a card game illustrated with doodle arts. But as you can see, I have no talent in drawing. I have also started to develop the game-play and card effects.

June 3rd, 2019 to June 4th, 2019

During one day at work, I started to develop a draft of the rules and finalized the mechanics of the game. Then, I decided to create a bunch of hand-written cards. I call 'em PROTOTYPE X.

June 5th, 2019

It was a public holiday in Malaysia. So, I have had decided to take a four-hour road trip all the way from Johor Bahru (my workplace) to the small town of Puchong to test out my PROTOTYPE X with my family members.

RESULT: They like the game, but some of the rules are too OP (over-powered) and requires modifications.

June 6th, 2019 to August 13th, 2019

For the remaining part of June and the whole of July (an a tad bit of August), I have finalized my card designs and the game-play rulings. It was tough, but it was worth it. I did seek a bit of help from my pal, Edward.

August 14th, 2019

I have decided to print out my finalized card design, I call 'em Protoype Z. I also got some cheap trading card holders from Daiso Japan.

August 15th to December 16th, 2019

There were countless amount of play-testings going on throughout this few months.

December 17th, 2019

I have decided to test this game out in the public. Some passerby did stopped by to look at the game. They were pretty interested in the card design. I play-playtested the game with my pal, Kevin.

RESULT: He likes the game, but he said it is a tad bit complicated and complex at the beginning.

The game is currently ready in The Game Crafter,

waiting to be published and released to the

masses.
