Steven’s Plagiocephaly Helmet

Just a few days ago, our 4 month old son Steven, was diagnosed with Plagiocephaly. Plagiocephaly is a condition characterized by an asymmetrical distortion (flattening of one side) of the skull, or also known as flat head syndrome. Steven has torticollis which is a tightening of his neck muscles on one side causing him to always want to turn his head to the left and also sleep in that position. This has caused the flattening to his head. We are doing stretches to help correct this but at this point his head will not correct itself. If not treated, his head will continue to grow at a diagonal. This can cause learning delays and developmental delays, increased need for special services when he reaches school age, orthodontic and TMJ issues, visual disturbances including visual defects and astigmatism, narrowing of his sinuses causing frequent sinus infections, sleep apnea and auditory problems. A helmet is needed to correct this flattening. Also, the sooner we can get him into a helmet the less likely he will need a second helmet resulting in another $2390 payment.

Due to our large deductible insurance will only pay $118 of the cost of the helmet. With my stay in the hospital last summer and the cost of labor and delivery ($7000) for Steven's birth, Rick and I are not able to afford to purchase Steven's helmet. We need to raise $2390 to cover the cost of the helmet. We are asking you, our friends and family, for help to cover the cost of the helmet so that our son could live a normal life.
