This extreme event is for my great friend Stuart Reader and dedicated to his son Ryan reader who sadly lost his life in August 2017

Aiming to complete the SPARTAN AGOGE IN MONGOLIA this is a 60 hour endurance event a mind blowing event my aim is to raise as much money for PAPYRUS prevention of young Suicide

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people – male and female – under 35 in the UK. In 2015, 1,659 young people took their own lives. That equates to over four per day. Every year many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling.

We are the national charity for the prevention of young suicide.

We draw from the experience of many who have been touched personally by young suicide across the UK and speak on their behalf in our campaigns and in our endeavours to save young lives. Together we believe that with appropriate support and education, many young suicides can be prevented.

We deliver awareness and prevention training, provide confidential support and suicide intervention through HOPELineUK, campaign and influence national policy, and empower young people to lead suicide prevention activities in their own communities.

The event

We've worked with Raise Your Hands to put together this introductory video about PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide. In the 7th century BC, the Spartans wanted to produce the strongest and most mentally tough citizens on earth. To do this, they created the Agoge, a system of training that became the envy of the known world.

To complete the Spartan Agoge, one overcomes mental and physical obstacles that aim to develop the body, mind and spirit. Most people will need to undertake months of training and self-discovery to earn this coveted achievement.

Undertaking the Spartan Agoge you will be offered an arena giving a culmination of your very physical and mental strength driven from your learnings through life. Finishers become innovative thinkers, prudent risk-takers, and expert decision-makers.

It is advised that entrants have completed various endurance events and intellectual challenges. For example: a participant may have developed perseverance, camaraderie, and leadership training through the military, or by completing various Spartan Races and Spartan Hurricane Heat distances.

Participants are advised to have completed the Spartan X course to assist in understanding the Agoge. Spartan X will help you identify your True North, finding your direction in life. You will be challenged to commit unwaveringly, and use your enthusiasm, not gratification. The relentless requirement for productivity and grit under adversity will aid you in attaining completion of the Spartan X course, maximizing your understanding of your personal being, and increasing your chance of finishing the relentless Spartan Agoge.

The Spartan Agoge is the culmination of every physical and mental strength as well as everything a person has learned in life. Finishers become innovative thinkers, prudent risk-takers, and expert decision-makers. They will embody the Spartan Code, a code of honor and respect that breeds trust and inspires action. Most importantly, they become masters of themselves.

  • Ryan was a good friend to my son. Knowing him from being young it's difficult to understand how this could happen.. but so many young men decide this is the only way out.. to raise awareness of this and to tell other young men that there is a way and there are people to talk to is vital.. what you are doing is great and we need to make sure this is shared with everyone. Good luck
