Campaign Story
For who?
Many families in Thailand depend on tourism for their income. Due to the prevailing pandemic, most tourists have left the country. For the foreseeable future, the number of tourists in Thailand will not yet recover to the previous level. Due of the lack of tourist influence, locals are struggling to support their basic needs of food, housing, healthcare, and paying utility bills. For example, many Burmese workers in Thailand lost their jobs and salary, both men and women from the same family. Some of them have little children or are pregnant in these difficult times. Sadly, many of those families are starving, making it even harder to take care of their little ones. The number of struggling families is still increasing and a recent outbreak in Bangkok and the surrounding areas makes the future even more uncertain. With this project, I am specifically focusing on helping pregnant women and families with young children. The best way to support and help the locals here is to ask for supportive donations. These donations will be used to purchase health care and medicines for the pregnant women and the families with little children without financial resources.
How can you support?
Your donation supports the people struggling here tremendously by funding the families in need. With your support, we are able to pay the bills of doctors, hospitals and pharmacists for many families. 100% of the donation will be used for medical care. Local volunteers will help to get the most vulnerable people to the doctor, hospital or pharmacist.
Who am I?
My name is Geert De Groof. I was stranded in Thailand one year ago due to Covid-19. From my interactions with the locals, I started to see that many people struggled to support themselves and their families. This encouraged me to participate in various volunteer projects that offered support to locals in difficult circumstances. Those projects created many strong bonds and contacts with the locals here. When some of those assistance programs ended, I saw the increasing number of families struggling and starving. This compelled me to start fundraising money on my own to help support the people. This is my third project since I am travelling and this time I choose to support a vulnerable target, pregnant women and families with young children who no longer have a salary. For this project I have a partner, which is Island Aid Koh Phangan (https://www.facebook.com/IslandAidKohPhangan/). I manage my own budgets to stop any outside influences on where the money goes (such as politics). Because I am choosing to do it this way, I can guarantee that 100% of donations will be utilized for supporting local families. I am very thankful and grateful for the support you offer.
