Starting Over After the Fire

Almost exactly one month ago, my husband and I were in the middle of a separation. As if ending a marriage after 10 years is not hard enough; our home we were renting caught on fire and we lost everything. We were blessed that we were not home at the time and our puppy and kitty were able to get out of the house safely.

However, the fire destroyed everything we had and the home was deemed a total loss. Because we did not have insurance, we have been completely displaced and trying to re-group. My 15 year old son and I have been staying out of state with a friend while my husband has been staying in a hotel in Texas.

Since the fire, I have been looking for employement and struggling to make ends meet. The one thing I still have is my car; however, making payments has been difficult and I am now 2 months behind on payments. I have faith that I will find a job; however, I desperately need help.

The main issues I currently face are keeping up with my car payments and raising money to find a home for my son and I. We are not looking for anything extravagant; just enough to help find a small apartment and purchase the necessities such as a couch, 2 beds (one for my son & one for myself), linens for the beds, clothes (we lost all our clothes in the fire) toiletries, a few kitchen items, etc.

Also, when the fire occured, the local fire department gave us $500 from their "Pay It Forward" account. I would love to be able to pay them back so they can continue to pay it forward to other families who suffer the loss from a fire.
