Starling Cinema is an initiative created by BYFF to reach out and show solidarity to the hundreds of children and young people who currently reside in the refugee camps in Calais & Dunkirk.
Currently Starling Cinema is working with the Royal College of Art to create a pop-up cinema for refugees to be taken to refugee camps throughout Europe. A few brief hours of cinema screenings on a regular basis can provide these children – many unaccompanied – with enjoyment and a sense of being cared for amidst their experience of tremendous upheaval, pain and trauma in harsh conditions with uncertain futures.
RCA students will spend a week working on the design and creation of the Pop-up cinema intensively. Using a mix of new and up-cycled materials, they will create a structure that can be deployable/removable in a maximum of 20 minutes. The Pop Up Cinema will then become an active, lasting cultural and creative legacy for the camps it travels to.
The project will launch in November 4th at the RCA with a film premier.
We are seeking public donations for this project to continue our trips and screenings with this new PUC to young refugee.
Any donation is a huge help to make a little difference
Thank you!
