As you know, it has been a tumultuous period of time for Hong Kong and its people. They have been protesting for democratic reform and they have continued to fight for their freedom unwavering and with absolute fervor. This is a group fundraising campaign to voice our support and to stand with Hong Kong. In their fight to protect HK’s autonomy in governing its people, they need our advocacy to help them through these turbulent times.
The proceeds from this campaign will be used to send medical supplies and other basic materials the people need. As per request from the team in Hong Kong, some of the proceeds shall go to Hong Kong Free Press, Demosisto, Pro-Democracy Camp and individuals who have been physically harmed during the protests. A list of the distribution of these proceeds will be constantly updated on the Fundly page. The details on Hong Kong Free Press campaign explaining their need for funds can be found on the dedicated team's page. Here is a joint statement about the protests and this campaign, provided by some of our friends in Hong Kong who will remain unnamed for their safety:
“Hong Kong is in a state of emergency since the 9th of June. Hong Kong citizens have taken to the street to protest the illegitimate extradition bill and ever since we have been subjected to violent, inhumane treatment that grossly exceeds the limits of what any civil society should suffer. We are protesting these acts against humanity; we are fighting for our freedom and our rights as citizens of Hong Kong.
On 21st of July, a Pro-Beijing mob clad in white T-Shirts brutally attacked and severely injured 36 Anti-extradition bill protesters and civilians. Despite frantic calls, the police arrived after an hour later when the mob had already finished the organized attacks on peaceful protesters returning after a rally.
After 11th of August, police-gangster syndicate has unleashed brutal attacks on protesters. Gangsters are attacking civilians indiscriminately on the street - this would usually be classified as an act of terrorism.
On 25th of Nov, the majority of people have voiced their decisions by voting for pro-democracy candidates in 90% of the constituencies in the district elections. While its undoubtedly a major win for the movement, we still haven't got solid results on our five demands from our government. Our kids are trapped inside universities after the brutal siege by the police.
We are being
silenced, persecuted and brutalized by the very institution that we are
trying to save and protect. We get tear gassed and pepper sprayed by the
very police we trust to protect our lives. Hong Kong government
meanwhile portrays these criminal activities and war crimes as ‘the
lowest degree of force necessary to stop the protests’.
The world needs to hold all these people who have committed misconduct or criminal behaviors accountable. The ultimate goal is to expose these perpetrators of their transgressions against basic human rights and freedom.
We need all the strength and support from our friends around the world who still believe in the power of the people. We need your help in this fight.
To cover our needs for supplies such as first aid kits, water bottles, gas masks, hard hats, goggles, vests, umbrellas, and train tickets, we are reaching out to people all around the world to help us. Any funding will grant us leverage in fighting for the cause. You can join us in this fight and help us in protecting our democracy.
We'd also like to use these funds to support our strongest allies in this democratic movement. Some of the funds shall be donated to Hong Kong Free Press, Pro-Democracy Camp and Demosisto. We’d like to thank our friends abroad for helping with this campaign and for helping us with this effort. We appreciate every single share, every single donation and every single act of support that we receive from the global community. Please share this campaign with your friends and family and raise their awareness. Thank you!”
