Stand up for Stephenie

Our close friend Stephenie went through a failed spinal surgery that will cause her pain for the rest of her life. In 2010 she had a spinal cord stimulator implanted in her back. This implant sends an electrical current which counteracts the majority of her chronic pain, and the battery now needs to be replaced otherwise she will be in extreme pain and eventually be unable to walk.

The cost of the surgery to replace the battery is, RM93,000 which translates to $22,244.

Stephenie is an English teacher in Malaysia who has dedicated her life to enhancing English Language Learning for local students, so much so that she previously opened her own centre at an affordable price for families in the area. On a teacher's salary and as a single parent the cost of the operation is absolutely impossible. Without this help she will not be able to afford the operation, leaving her to live with unbearable pain.

On top of Stephenie's own circumstances she is the sole carer to her son. Her son has recently been diagnosed with a neurological condition which currently requires for him to be rushed in and out of hospital. Stephenie is currently fully invested in the care of her son, postponing her own surgery so that she can care for him.

She is not a person who will readily ask for help, but under such stressful circumstances we, as her friends, are taking it upon ourselves to help her so that she can help her son.
