ST JOHNS PRIMARY SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION COMPLETION

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

St Johns Primary School is a Private school founded in 2013 to carter for the underprivileged children from Machakos and Makueni Counties, Kenya. The School is located about 50 Kilometers East of Nairobi City and just about twenty minute drives from Machakos town. The founder of the school Mr. Livinac Mutwota who passed on in 2017 was touched by the economic problems bedeviling the community leading to school drop outs especially for the under privileged and orphaned school going children. There are orphans learning at the school with no assistance at all from any partner, donor or guardian. About 30% of the children’s population which is currently at about two hundred pupils falls under this category.

The community which is predominantly peasantry finds it extremely difficult to pay the school levy per term. This project will therefore help alleviate the suffering of these vulnerable children and will relieve people in need and relieve distress. Sustainable access to safe drinking water for these children may not be achieved unless you donate part of your hard earned income for the implementation of this project. The school is currently run by Livinacs wife Ms. Janet John who has since retired and is struggling to keep the school operational. Often, she has been forced to use her pension to pay part of the teachers’ salaries. The school gets no government funding and is wholly dependent on the community support in form of fees which is barely enough to pay for the teachers’ salaries besides other operating costs.

INTRODUCTION

Education is the key to reducing poverty and is highly prized in Kenya, yet only about 30% of primary school children are able to attend secondary schools. Johns primary school is a school for the underpriledged, the needy and orphaned children in Machakos and Makueni counties. The founder had the vision of providing the underprivileged children with opportunities for education, feeding, counseling and nurturing, in order for them to achieve a confident and successful life. The little levies paid by less than half of the parents cannot sustain capital projects as no government support is given. It is our hope that through your work and support, the children will achieve a confident, successful and prosperous future.
