On the evening of 6 February 2020, St Augustine College was the target of a particularly devastating burglary: apart from the Tabernacle in our chapel, other items stolen included 22 computers and three computer servers. To replace the IT equipment alone would cost about R 400 000 / USD 26 500 / Euro 24 250 / GBP 20 300. Because of our financial constraints, St Augustine’s insurance policy is not able to cover the consequences of the burglary.

St Augustine College is a private, NOT for profit ‘university’ in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our financial resources are limited - many of our students come from very deprived backgrounds and are unable personally to finance their studies. Committed to the principle that those with ability should be given the opportunity, such students are admitted to study at St Augustine at heavily discounted fees. Our financial circumstances are thus constrained.

We aim, initially to raise R 100 000 / USD 6 625 / Euro 6 063 / GBP 5 075 to purchase one new server (R 47 500)and 9 new mini-computers (R 5 800). With your help, we will realise this aim and so deliver on our commitment to be ‘an African leader in ethical education’ producing graduates ‘who have learnt to think rigorously, so as to act rightly, and to serve humanity better’.

Please help!

  • I worked here for two years and this place and the people have the most incredible passion for providing QUALITY education to their students. With the right support and infrastructure, I really think this is place could excel to a top private higher education institution. However, they've had just one struggle after another with finances (they get no government funding) and this is a blow that literally made me cry when I heard about it. Just the absolutely last place that deserves this kind of hit. Good luck to St. Augustine! You will always have a special place in this academic's heart.
