Sri lankan orphanage

On the 5th June I will be flying out to Sri Lanka, Ambalangoda to complete 4 weeks of volunteering in an Orphanage.

There are two orphanages I could potentially be volunteering in; the first is a mixed sex orphanage that supports 80 children aged between 6 to 18 years, and the second is much smaller and primarily for girls; there are a total of 18 girls at the home, aged between 5-14 years. I am hopeful I will get to experience time at both orphanages.

These children have been orphaned due to either;

• Having lost both of their parents
• Coming from abusive backgrounds
•  Their families not being able to afford to look after them

They have had a tough start to life and long for love, care and attention. Volunteers like myself work in the orphanages Monday-Friday, both teaching and organising sporting activities, and generally providing them with the love they so desperately need.

Having previously worked with young vulnerable adults I have a reasonable amount of experience of working with people who have come from poor family backgrounds and am confident in offering them a shoulder to turn to.

I am looking to raise as much money as possible for the trip and appreciate any donations you may be able to make. It will help the children to develop their English skills, education and cultural views.

I am also looking to participate in the community building project where they are carrying out renovation projects such as schools and hospitals, however my main focus will be on the orphanages.
