Sri Lanka Sea Turtle Conservation Project

Hi guys, my name is Elliot Smith and I am a 19 year old male from Wales, UK :). At the moment I am studying Marine Biology at Plymouth University. This summer I am hoping to volunteer in Sri Lanka on a Sea Turtle conservation Programme in association with PlanMyGapYear, which will aim to conserve and protect Sea Turtle eggs which are laid habitually on the beaches of Sri Lanka. These beaches are of magnitudinal importance to the nursing of hatching Sea Turtles, which continue to populate the Indian Ocean's diversity of species of Sea Turtles. This ongoing project includes the data logging of the locations chosen by maternal Sea Turtles for nesting sites in order to protect them for future nesting Sea Turtles, and to ensure the survival of newly hatching Sea Turtles by protecting them from predators as they make their way from the nest to the ocean. The conservation of the nursery grounds is an ongoing project with people joining and leaving Sri Lanka almost every day. I am using this fundraiser to help me fund the cost of the volunteering programme, and the cost of travel to Sri Lanka in August.
