Campaign Story
In recent decades mental health has become an increasing problem in Sri Lanka, statistics estimating that 40% of people in tsunami-affected areas suffer from mental disorders. According to the World Health Organisation suicide rates are amongst the highest globally.
Along with two friends, I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka for a fortnight this July undertaking a Psychology and Mental Health placement. Through the organisation 'Plan My Gap Year' we aim to help and support mental health doctors and nurses by working in psychiatric and rehabilitation centres, running therapeutic activities for patients. We will also be lucky enough to join in with community projects, providing care to mentally disabled children in a government school and teaching maths and English at local orphanages too.
This placement is not Government funded therefore any donations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for reading my page, Hannah x
