We, at Château du Parc, have decided to plant a forest. We admit to not being very environmentally aware and would like to right that wrong. The property can't claim to be very "green", we have quite a big carbon footprint as we consume a lot of fuel and electricity and seeing as each tree will absorb approximately 25kg of carbon emissions per year meaning 4 tons will be removed from the atmosphere over a 160 year lifetime we believe this to be a truly worhtwhile project, not just to make ourselves feel better but generally, to help fight global warming.
Currently, our south west field is vacant and we believe it would be the ideal location to plant, this way, in time, our forest will blend with the existing forest to the east and our own, smaller woodland to the north. We plan on planting primarily Oak trees as they are probably the single best tree for supporting wildlife. Their leaves are eaten by more types of caterpillar than any other tree and the deeply ridged bark of the old trees is an excellent home for many other insects. The acorns are a rich source of energy for larger animals that are trying to fatten up during autumn.
Our forest will not only cleanse the environment but we hope it will also host plenty of wildlife, in particular we would like to protect the bigger animals such as wild boar and deer from local hunters, who, in almost all the surrounding woodland hunt everything that moves.
We hope to begin planting in the second half of November 2013, which is the optimum period. The physical planting shall be undertaken by ourselves (unless you feel like popping by and planting your own sapling).
Although an individual sapling is inexpensive, we would like to create a large forest, consisting of hundreds of trees. This is where you come in! Your donation will directly fund a metre tall sapling which we shall plant, protect and nurture. Thank you very much for reading this and should you wish to donate a couple of Euros, it would be hugely appreciated, hopefully you will be able to come and visit the tree you sponsored very shortly.
