SPONSOR A BED ON GRANDPARENT'S DAY to give new beds for the abandoned older women residents of COSE Group Home.
Historically, older people were
held in high regard in the Philippines. In
principle, we still are, to this day.
But, this is the reality. This is the irony. Times have changed. In
the sixties, few
ageing people loitered
in the streets
of Manila, begging.
Now, more and
more have taken
to the streets
and the dumps out of
necessity. The need for social
protection is very profound today, more than ever.
Coalition of Services of the Elderly (COSE) “Group Home” for abandoned older women was established as our initiative and in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The houses were donated and turned over to COSE in 1992.
There are 11 abandoned women who are residing in group home. They are encouraged to be actively involved in the community. When older people share their wisdom and experience, everybody gets a chance to learn and improve their skills and competencies.
The group home needs upgrading and enhancement to ensure the residents' safety and full-functionality. Among its most vital needs is a new bed for them. A new set costs P3500 but you can donate any amount.
COSE emphasize the traditional Filipino value of "Bayanihan" - where the community supports its members - often depicted in the entire community carrying a house on its shoulders to move it to a more desirable place.
We hope you help us carry the group home into a more desirable condition for these abandoned older women.
