Edge of Chæos presents
SPEEDSTERS
a film by David Attali
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO COMPLETE THE POST-PRODUCTION OF OUR SHORT!
INLINE SKATING ACTION IN THE CITY NIGHT
Chase, a lonely Gen Zer, is fascinated by a gang of rollerbladers. To become one of them, she must take on a race challenge that will have her fight against the bladers across the city. In a twisted coming-of-age ritual which may cost her her life, she must quickly master the skill of the push, find the line and skate as fast she can... or die.
About the shoot
Speedsters is a rollerblade chase at night in the city of neon lights and, boy, was it a challenge to produce! We wanted to express speed and ran around all round Hong Kong with rickshaw dolly. Plus, we shot it right in the middle of the pandemic doing our best to comply with social distancing. The shoot was wrapped after 5 amazing nights and everyone ended up just fine! Want to join our adventure, race with us and create action cinema with a purpose, when everyone says we can’t?
Director's note
Our beloved Hong Kong is hurt and it feels that, with the loss of freedoms and COVID-19, forces are against the dreamers. Having lived in this city for 25 years, I feel for it deeply. And more than ever, in spite or maybe because of all the obstacles, I want to make movies.
So I set to make a short film that would be fun to do, be about movement as an expression of freedom, make it exciting to watch and a showcase of awesome urban night vistas. It's a test, a genre experiment.
For years we have been shooting in the streets and we have a deep knowledge of Hong Kong's amazing locations. When I met world famous champion rollerblader Doon Yuen of Checker In Line skating school, and the amazing inline skating crew of Team Yskate I knew that if we could chase them around the city, I had a cool short story opportunity. So there we have it: an awesome cast of pro racers, a main protagonist with a goal, obstacles, conflict, and speed in the city. And what if our main character Chase was a metaphor for a hurt city?
A cast of pro skaters
Of course, a key theme of Speedsters is...Speed. So we needed a team of professional skaters to deliver the action with skill and power. Our cast is made of professionals of the Inline skating world.
Whitney Chau Wing Yu, Inline skate Instructor at Team Yskate as Chase
Yip Pui Ki, leader of Team Yskate as Blade
Gary Yip Ka Yin, who knew how to skate before he walked as Uzod
Kenus Mok King Lam, champion figure inline skater as Radar
Cyrus, Inline skating champ and Instructor at Checker as Speedmaster

Hi, nice too meet you, I am David Attali. I am a French director and producer. I have made Asia my home for many years. Here is my personal page that showcases some of my work: https://www.davidattali.com
15 years ago I decided I wanted to make films and founded the production company The Hong Kong Fixer.
We have been privileged to collaborate on dozens of film, TV and commercial projects. Recently, we have started pushing our creative agenda and started Edge of Chæos whose mission is to seek and foster artistic talent and change the world. Basically, we want to have fun with cool stories and aesthetic stuff to make an impact and make friends in the process. And today, with COVID-19 shutting down theatres, galleries, museums.. supporting the creative community has never been so crucial!
