My friend and colleague Ashley Greenwood has a 4 year old daughter who was born with a rare and chronic condition, "Cloacal Exstrophy and Spina Bifida"
In Megan's 4 years she has endured 27 surgeries and is now heading toward a Huge Milestone in her life.... She is heading off to school.
Ashley is desperately trying to raise funds for a SPECIALIST HAND BIKE that will assist Megan. Due to her condition she is unable to walk and currently has a propelling wheelchair, thus she cannot ride a bike, ( something which we all love our kids to be able to do ).
As a 4 year old little lady, this makes her feel different and left out from her friends, especially when her little brother Ben is zooming off on his bike.
With Megan starting school, at times they are asked to take their bikes to school where they learn about Road Safety and other dangers and Ashley would love for her to be able to take her special bike.
As any mum or dad knows, we all want our children to be able to interact with their peers at an independent level and to enjoy themselves as any child should do.
The cost of these bikes is around £1800 as they need to be custom made. Ashley has had an offer of £500 from a car manufacturer but still needs £1300. With Megan's growth being slow, it will also be a piece of equipment that would last for a good few years, but give her memories for life.
Some of Ashley's colleagues will cycling the Manchester 100 (100 miles) on 1st September to help try and raise some money for this cause. There will also be raffles held, cake and pizza sales, sponsored swims and colleagues giving up a days wages for this cause.
Please make a donation, no matter how small, to help make a child very happy!
