Campaign Story
My name is Duke. I was adopted off the street on 1 August 2014. When I was 8 weeks old I was diagnosed with right aortic arch, meaning I cannot eat any solid food. As my esophagus is only 3 millimeters wide I am not able to eat normal cat food. The veterinarian said that they could operate at a cost of $5000 but the chances of success would be less than 5%. My parents did not want to take this risk. As I cannot eat solid food the veterinarian said I might not make it past the age of 6 months. My parents bottle fed me and liquidized all my food for me. This did not work too well as I did not get enough food and nutrients into my little body. Luckily after lots of trial and error they found a special cat food that is normally given to critical ill patients at the animal hospital. It has a very soft mousse like consistency that I can actually eat by myself.
Well I am now 2 and a half years old and with the perseverance and dedication of my parents am now a very playful, healthy, happy cat.
Unfortunately my special food is costing my parents just over $1500 per year, excluding transportation of the food which must be specially ordered for me.
I love my food as it is full of nutrients and managed to get me to the weight within the range of a normal healthy cat. I recently had a check up at the veterinarian and he could not believe that I am in such a good condition.
Please help my mom and dad support me.
Thank you - Duke
