Special Ed Center in Xela, Guatemala

We are fundraising to open a Special Ed Center in Quetzaltenango (Xela) in Guatemala C. A. The lack of budget of the Government is our main reason for this project. It seems that nobody is interested in our kids with special needs, who are being left behind on their own.  If they do not learn on the regular school, they do not have another opportunity to succeed since there are no places to work professionally with them. There is only one Special Ed School in Xela.  We have talked with a lot of families and they are not satisfied with the school services.  They said that it is "almost a daycare" for their kids/teenagers.  They have not learned anything for several years.  That is because they do not have the knowledge or therapies to work with them individually. In Mapaes we focus on writing, reading and some Math basics for them to become functional into the community.  We also include  OT to help them progress.  Our team is leaded by a graduated Clinical Psychologist, who is also mother of two kids with special needs. We need to raise up to $2,000 to work with children/teenagers from poor families (one-to-one). Donors will be provided with a special T-Shirt, Guatemalan souvenirs, reports of progress of each kid and pictures of our labor in the center. Please help us help the ones in need. Thank you!
