Even $1-00 WILL HELP US.

It’s very disheartening to see all the cruelty / abuse towards animals, everywhere you look there is another horror story of man’s treatment and blatant cruelty. We at the SPCA are fully aware and are on the front line of this unfortunate phenomenon. Being part of a small rural SPCA makes one aware of the ugliness of it and so much more.

Amahlathi SPCA is struggling. We are a committee of 5 volunteers and we have a staff of 5. We are a very poor rural area that cover a geographical area of 4820 square kilometres and have been operational since 1976. Our area is mostly rural villages and townships are distributed far and wide and roads are in very bad condition

At present we need the minimum of R30 000 ($2500) per month to be fully operational. This covers salaries, insurance, lights & water, vehicle maintenance, fuel, veterinary services and medicines for treatment and food.

We need to do as many sterilization drives as possible to stop uncontrolled breeding and spread of disease.

SPCA has to pay for every sterilization R300 = $25.A female dog and her off spring can produce up to 10 000 additional dogs, so every sterilization conducted is vital.

Many of the people living in our area do care for their animals and they play a vital role of their live, providing security and comfort to the families. Many have limited / to no source of income and live very close to or below the bread line. They live miles away for town and veterinary care and are heavily reliant on the SPCA visits to offer this care to their pets.

We receive NO funding from government nor municipality and rely heavily on fundraising / generosity of the public and business. We do realise that in the present economic climate donations are slim as there as so many charities asking for help. Amahlathi SPCA prides ourselves on trying to fundraise before we ask, however we are finding ourselves in a very precarious position. Closing doors is not an option. What will happen to the animals in the areas that we service. Who will collect strays. Who will provide shelter and hope to unwanted, uncared for, abused animals in the area.

WE ARE THE ONLY ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANISATION OPERATING IN THE AREA.
The following is what we have achieved during the 2017 financial year:
Animals treated1533

Animals sterilization 791
Animals adopted 276
Animals surrendered 461
Cattle impounded 574

Please keep in mind that we only have one Inspector and one 15yr old vehicle to service the whole area. We are called out at all hours of the day and night to assist any animal in need.MVA being a huge problem with the amount of stray Dogs / Cats / Cattle on our roads. She attends to every case – be it to offer medical treatment or to humanly euthanize any critically injured animal.

We are fighting daily to keep our doors open and offer the best possible service we can, under dire circumstances. We need financial assistance, building materials, food for the animals (cats/dogs/horses/donkeys), bedding, industrial washing machine, cleaning materials and medicines that can be redistributed to the needy pets.

Sadly, SPCA's are rarely thought of until they are needed. Please, help us keep our doors open.

PLEASE HELP US TO HELP THEM – THEY HAVE NO VOICE AND ARE FULLY RELIANT ON US
