Campaign Story
Forests are part of the backbone to greenhouse gases purification and provide habitats for most of all wildlife. However, this natural resource is at risk from deforestation.
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests and woodlands. Deforestation is brought about by commercial logging, conversion of woodlands to agricultural land, and the felling of trees for firewood and building material.
communities living around South Marmanet forest are small-scale subsistence farmers who wholly rely on rain fed agriculture for their economic needs. sadly this type of agriculture does not fully meet their needs and hence resort into illegal logging and felling of trees for firewood which they sell to fill the huge economic hole. this is a lose-lose situation since the forest is also responsible for water catchment and perspiration that later turns into rainfall.
this project aims at empowering those communities into profitable agriculture that can fully sustain their needs and seek their support in re-forestation and rehabilitation of the forest.
the project also aims at starting camping sites in the forest which will also provide additional income to the commmunities.
