My background history:
My name is Maya Tatum. Since I was younger I have always found ways to give back to my community. I have been a mentor for young girls in my neighborhood. Living on the South Side of Chicago is hard, and being able to give these girls hope meant a lot to me. I am also apart of an anti-violence group in Chicago called Project Orange Tree. This group educations people on structural violence and tries to give our youth an alternative to violence.
I was recently accepted to this program named EDventure. This program allows college students to travel to different countries and participate in a three-week program where we will be doing humanitarian work. I chose to go to Cape Town, South Africa. I chose this because it has been my dream to go back to my motherland and give back. This program means the world to me because it makes me happy knowing that I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to place that is in need and give back to them and help restore their communities. I believe that this program will be the next step in community service. By doing this program it will broaden my horizons and help me take the next steps I need to becoming a better person so I will be able to contribute more to giving back to people.
Cost and Fees:
The program cost $3,500 and I also have to pay for my airfare, so that will cost another $2,000. Unfortunately I cannot pay for this program due to my finical situation. I am a freshman in college and would to attend this program. Please donate anything you have. It is for a good cause and it would mean a lot to me.
