Ever wanted to save the world? Sometimes it might seem an impossible task. There's nobody telling you what to do- because they're too busy waiting for someone else to do it for them. Ever since I was young, I have always wanted to do something, ANYTHING, to help those less fortunate than myself, and to make our world a better place.

My name's Connor, and in February 2015, my friend Hayden and I wish to travel to South Africa, to assist in community service. We will be educating school children who would otherwise receive no education, teaching such areas as English, Mathematics, Singing and Sport. We will also be building co-ops in local communities, protecting wildlife, strengthening health care systems, and spreading general awareness. This program will be done through EDventure International (http://www.edventureintl.com/ )

We are both first year students studying at Swinburne University, respectively enrolled in Engineering and Film and Television. With my knowledge of the media, and filmmaking skill I wish to document some of the problems people face everyday in Africa, to be used to raise awareness of world vision.

Overall, we will be empowering the communities to take a stand against poverty, and promoting them to become leaders in their own communities, thus endorsing independence. Between the two of us, the program is likely to cost over $8000 (including air fares and the costs of the program (which may be found here: http://www.edventureintl.com/) Obviously this is quite a lot of money, and being University students neither of us feel we can raise this money on our own.

This money will have a significant impact on South African communities, and the strengthening of Global Trade. As ambassadors for Australia, we will be aiming to build a bridge between the First and the Third world. At the same time, however, we will not be aiming to damage the culture of such a society, and will be treating the people we meet with utmost respect, and honour any rules and customs they may have as law. These communities we are visiting have minimal to no education. They are impoverished, and ill informed of the Western world, possibly having a skewed vision of countries like Australia and America. We will be representing our society, and working to build stronger connections and trade systems. We will be living amongst the locals; not over them, and putting our own efforts into communities that need all the help they can get.

Lastly, thankyou!! The only way we're going to be able to make it there is with some help, as we are both only employed in low paying, casual positions of work. You are making our dreams possible!
