On the 19th of April 2013 I will be travelling to Thohoyandou in South Africa to volunteer my time in the communities foster shelters for young children aged between 2-6 years old. While over there I will be assisting with general caretaking of the children such as body hygiene and handing out food. I will also be teaching the children English, reading, writing, simple maths, crafts and educational games.
Like alot of people I have become caught up in the FIFO lifestyle and have lost sight of how lucky we are to live in such an amazing country like Australia which has so much opportunity. Most of the children living in these foster shelters or 'places of safety' have been given up by their parents as they could no longer support them or that their parents have died of aids. I cannot imagine how hard it would be for these children to have their parents suddenly taken from their lives which is why im more than happy to take the time to look after them as best I can.
ALL money donated will be going towards purchasing items for the children such as toys, clothes, general/ hygiene supplies etc. Im hoping that everyone will get behind me and show there support by donating, and just remember that even the smallest amount of money can make a difference. I believe there is no better gift than giving and I hope that everyone else feels the same aswell :)
