Campaign Story
Background
My volunteer experience will start on January 16th, 2015 and last for 4 weeks. I will be working with elementary and middle school children from age 5 to age 17. This may involve teaching lessons in Math, Science, and/or English, as well as assisting the teachers with their lessons. During breaks, I will also be involved in planning extra-curricular activities and working with students one on one.
Location
I will be volunteering in the rural Venda region of South Africa. The Venda region is located in the Northeast corner of the country. Housing for the duration of my volunteer experience will consist of a homestay with a local family in the area.
What will your donation support?
50% of profits will be used by myself in South Africa to purchase items needed by the school and children. This not only benefits the school and children, but the local economy as well. The other 50% of profits will be used to offset a portion of my volunteering expenses such as housing, food, and travel to and from South Africa.
Do you get anything for donating?
Yes! As a thank you for donating, I will be keeping an online journal (blog) about my experiences and how your donation is helping the community. Since I will be in a rural area with limited internet access, the blog entries will be as frequent as my internet access allows. Also, certain donation amounts will make you eligible to receive a thank you gift. When entering the amount to donate, you will be able to select which gift you would like to receive.
