South Africa Volunteer and Experience Programme

In July next year, I will be travelling to Cape Town in South Africa where I will be enduring the following high intensity, adrenaline fuelled activities:

Bloukrans Bungee Jump (the highest commercial bungee jump in the world – 708 feet!), cage diving with great white sharks, riding ostriches and abseiling down table top mountain (3281 feet!)

Whilst each of these activities may sound like a fun challenge, there is a serious purpose behind it.  I am hoping that with your help I can find people that are willing to sponsor me for these activities in order to raise money for a school where I will be spending my time working for 8 hours a day, giving support, care and teaching English to children.

The children who attend the charity run school live in extreme conditions which we ourselves would find unimaginable.  Every day they wake up, often sharing a single bed with their brothers and sisters, and dressing in their few items of clothing - small things like this which we take for granted.

The support I will be giving will aid a child with something they may not have thought possible, a chance of hope. Hope that they will make it to their 18th birthday, that they will be able to read and write, to be able to laugh and play. Schooling gives them a break from their daily struggles where they may be found begging on the street, or being forced into harsh child labour.

Although we don't wish to think about it, it is going on in the world. Even though I myself will only be able to make a small difference, with your help, we can change lives.
