South Africa- Venda Youth Program

Through the Global Volunteer Network, I will be volunteering in the Venda region of South Africa. I will help by working with children aged 2-6, helping with general caretaking ranging from handing out porridge and brushing teeth, to teaching English, reading, writing and pronunciation. Simple mathematics and counting, body hygiene, crafts and educational games for younger children will be provided as well.

Currently there are schools in South Africa that struggle to meet their achievement goals, achieve specific skill sets, and motivate young people. There are many factors contributing to this challenge from high student to teacher ratio, lack of resources, and most important history. As a volunteer I will be able to use this time to provide childcare and education to those in need, and motivate the students towards a positive future.

Costs that I will be paying out of pocket for include the program package; home stay, meals, airport to home transporation, training and orientation; and airfare. Price I will not list because any donations given will not be directed towards these fees.
