SOS: Peru Disaster

600,000 people have been affected by the recent disaster caused by flooding rivers and mudslides, both in rural and in urban areas. Crops have been destroyed, homes swept away, people and animals killed, and roads, bridges, industries and building structures left unusable. 75 people have lost their lives and many have disappeared and are feared dead.

As always, it has been the poorer and most vulnerable who have truly suffered. The mudslides (called "huaicos" in Peru) have affected many towns from Lima to the north coastline, all the way up to Piura, and south to Arequipa. Although the government has declared a state of emergency in the greater part of the national territory, it is still not able to cope with the broad scope of this DISASTER.

Water is running very scarce and there is risk of contamination and disease. You can do something about it. From as little as £3 you can feed and give water to a child for one day, and an adult from £5.

If your heart is really generous, you can help purchase a complete Family Survival kit (£500), that includes (as specified by the Red Cross): a family-sized high-sized tent, thermal blankets, waterproof multi-use covers, two water containers, water filters, cooking pots and pans, dishes and utensils, two mosquito nets, pure soap, a selection of tools, rope and other survival items, notepads and pencils, mobile multi-use container on wheels with a lid designed to serve as workbench with saw grooves and toolholder.

All funds raised will be used to:

1) Purchase and distribute food, water, medicine, boots and clothes to families and children in hard-hit areas, including LifeBox units with up to 72 items, as specified by the Red Cross.

2) Purchase tents, blankets, water filters, Lifebox units and complete Family Survival kits for homeless families and their children from British-based relief organisations such as Disaster Aid UK & Ireland.

3) Supporting other similar campaigns.

The Peruvian authorities have further informed that the situation can get even worse over the next few weeks. You can make the difference today! Give with love!

Thank you,
