My name is Amir Sheikh, the National Chairperson of the Somali Community Board of South Africa (SCOB) and a native Somali based in Johannesburg South Africa.
Somalia my home country is experiencing one of the deadliest and worst droughts in the history of the Horn with Thousands of people on the brink of deaths if international support doesn't reach them on time, most affected are children, elder and women with not less than one hundred children dying on daily basis due to hunger, malnutrition and starvation.
The present and the past drought and famine crisis in Somalia can only be fully explained in relation to certain principal factors, which are inseparable and inter-linked in the production and reproduction of the situation experienced by the Somali people in the last three decades.
The present one is a result poor rains and three failed harvest, precipitating the worst drought in the region, the whole horn of Africa seen in a period of about 60 years. Factors such as belated and sub-average harvest, high food, water and fuel prices, and depleted grazing and farm lands caused by an estimated 25% drop in rainfall lead to a large movement of peoples from the conflict-ridden parts of Southern to relief centers in the country and neighboring countries.
The plight of the people in the Horn of Africa and the pouring supports from many of my friends, workmates and well-wishers prompted me to open this online fundraising. We wish to raise around £50,000 which will reach areas most hit by the drought, areas outside Mogadishu, the capital where relief assistance and international interventions are restricted due to Al-Shabab reign. We will provide videos, audios and portraits updates once we have raised the required amounts.
A single individual saved through your intervention is like you saved all mankind. Please open your hearts and wallets, share the plights of our people and contribute generously, where you can’t contribute due to difficulties on your side which pray the Lord to alleviate, kindly include our suffering people in the Horn in your daily prayers.
Our previous assistance in 2011 with other relief organisations in South Africa, where South African support exceeded over 20M as per oral reply at the National Parliament by Former Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe:
