"Hello everyone, my name is Eduardo.

I am 33 years old, from Mozambique and I have been an agronomy student since I was 18 years old. I always liked agronomy because I was brought up in a family that dedicated a lot of agriculture, so I made a bet on it. I started in Mozambique and I am currently studying my doctorate in agronomy in Londrina, Paraná, Brazil.

My dreams and aspirations

"In Mozambique, approximately 95% of the population is engaged in subsistence agriculture and has generated low incomes due to the very high price of agricultural inputs, especially chemical fertilizers, nitrogen in particular. But after coming to Brazil in talks with my advisor, he recommended me to work with sustainable technologies for family agriculture, using bacteria that fix and supply atmospheric nitrogen and provide plants (biofertilizers), and this technology is already a success in Brazil. I realized part of some researches here in brazil conditions and the results were great. Therefore, now I intend to take the same technology to evaluate its efficiency in agricultural experiments in the reality of Mozambique and to recommend. I dream, I fight a lot and I hope that I can get funds to be able to carry out this innovation in Mozambique. "

Current status

Currently the public research bodies in Mozambique as here in Brazil are facing financial problems, and fact that some research has not made any progress. However, when I discovered that from "go get funding" you can do a fundraising campaign, I felt the need to apply for the purpose.

Reason I’m running this campaign

The cost of producing chemical fertilizers such as ammonia and urea is strongly influenced by the international price of fossil fuels, namely natural gas, which, in addition to being a source of energy, is also a raw material with a 90% weight in the product in question. However, Mozambique is one of the countries in the Southern Africa region with low rates of use of chemical fertilizers due to their high cost of acquisition by family farmers. In Mozambique, a bag of 50kg of fertilizer costs between 25.00 and US $ 50.00 and four bags are needed, for example for 1 hectare, in a country that the people consume less than US $ 1.00 per a day. Moreover, the excessive use of chemical fertilizers reduces the quality of the soil, causing damage to the environment and to humans. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce and promote the use of biofertilizer in family farms, which are composed of bacteria beneficially such as Fixative activity Nitrogen (NF), in order to reduce production costs and create higher productivity, preserve the environment and reduce the effects of greenhouse gas, using agricultural inoculants for the most cultivated crops. So, I know that it will not be easy to reach the fund needed for the research. However, I need to transfer this technology to the family farmers of Mozambique, and recommend it. After the results, I will have to invite several Brazilian and Argentine partners to invest in this technology in Mozambique, since they are the most successful countries in it. The feasibility of this research project will cost me $ 18,000, currently, I do not own the same. With your support wherever possible, I will be able to make feasible tests for the agronomic and economic viability of the use of these bacteria in the agricultural conditions of Mozambique and later recommend.

The funds will be used for the following:

Crops: corn, beans and soybeans Total (US $)
Bacteria transportation (airway) 234,38
Chemical analysis of soil and plant tissues 1440,88
Agricultural inputs 2106,84
Equipment and materials for the experiment 2111,00
Irrigation system 4779,75
Harvesting operations 351,68
Submission of 3 articles 600,00
Presentation of research in 1 event 800,00
Daily transportation to the installation site of the experiment 720,00
Round trip Travel (Mozambique to Brazil and vice versa) 4000,00
Total 1 17144,52
Contingency (5%) 855,59
Total 2 18000,00

Why is your help being extremely necessary?

Without your help, I cannot afford to bring this innovation to family farmers, and in particular Mozambican agriculture, it is far from reaching its full potential. Without your help I will feel that I have just studied to have the certificate and do not contribute anything to the society and deviate from my goals. Leaning on this campaign will allow me to be one of the many solutions that producers face. With your help, I will be able to announce to the world at large how the implementation of the project was possible, and I will feel stronger and better than ever.

Rewarding gesture

As a rewarding gesture, I will ask the e-mail of those who can help and I will be happy to bring back a small gift with souvenirs from Mozambique and send by the post office for contributions greater than $ 50. If you contribute more than $ 100, I will duplicate the same. At last, with a contribution of 500 $, to your invitation I will make a motivational speech in your company or in other ways as calls via skype to also thank the gesture.

Lastly:

Thank you for taking the time to visit my campaign. Any contribution, big or small, is greatly appreciated. If you can’t contribute please share my campaign to you friends and family”
