Afrika Awake is a registered PBO NPO based in South Africa who's core focus is assisting Refugees and asylum seekers living in SA whom have been displaced by xenophobia as well as implement cleverly designed initiatives that promote social cohesion between locals and foreigners as well as uplift and upskill both groups with an aim to prevent future attacks.
One of the directors Gabriel Hertis, himself a refugee from Rwanda is completing his Masters Degree in peace building through the University of Durban. Gabriel and three fellow students have entered the famed international HULT PRIZE competition for 2017. University students from around the globe have been asked to come up with solutions to the current global refugee crisis.
Gabriel's team submitted their idea (which is nothing short of genuis) and have been selected to compete in the regional finals in Dubai in March.
A minimum of 3 have to attend to present their idea to the panel in Dubai. Regional winners will compete in the global final with the winning team receiving 1million $ in prize money to fund their project.
We have managed to raise up R12 000 of the R45 000 needed to get them to Dubai.
(It is R15 000 per person including flights and accommodation)
We have been told the buzz is all around the SA team as ours is the only team who themselves are refugees coming up with brilliant solutions for other refugees.
That coupled with the brilliance of the idea itself gives us a very good chance.
Please open your hearts and help get Gabriel and his teammates to this final where they will not only be representing themselves, Afrika Awake and South Africa but representing all the refugees scattered around the world.
It will be devastating if they miss out on this unique once in a life time opportunity.
Please feel free to contact us should you wish to find d out more about their idea or any other information.
