My Name isadrai and i am currently working as an online

web developer. I love sports. I joined the "Davao City Legionnaires

American Football Team - Tackle/Flag" https://www.facebook.com/DcLegionnaires/ and https://www.facebook.com/DCtacklefootball/

2 months ago, and I want to help the team grow and introduce American football in Davao City, Philippines.

The Davao City Legionnaires started in 2011 as a recreational backyard

football league with Paul Reyes Cabrera, the current team captain and

his friends. The team’s original name was “Davao City Alaskanz”. With

only a few people interested to join the team, they went on a hiatus.

In 2016, Davao City Legionnaires ( https://www.facebook.com/DcLegionnaires/)

was born when a Frenchman named Jay Jacob visited Davao City,

Philippines to meet his girlfriend. With his expertise in American

Football and experience in playing professionally in Paris, he rebuilt

the team with Paul, Floyd and Joff. The three later went on to become

the current team captains of Davao City Legionnaires.

With just a

single football and a whistle, the team now has 59 members – a number

that is constantly growing. Most of its members are working dads,

college students, high school athletes and some out-of- school youth.

I

joined the team two months ago, and I am deeply impressed with the time

and dedication that the current members are showing. They don’t play

professionally but they practice 3 times a week -- Fridays and Sundays

for strength and conditioning, and Saturdays for scrimmage.

I

can see that American football has a big potential to grow here in Davao

City. The only problem is that we don’t have the right equipment.

American football is not yet widely known in our city. Most sports

equipment stores do not carry football paraphernalia and those that do

only sell shoes which retail at as much as $100US. Most, if not all, of

us cannot afford to spend that much on a pair. Some resort to buying

second-hand shoes which are likely to be worn out and may pose a risk

when at play. This is not to mention the lack of hygiene this practice

entails.

We will be meeting up with the Manila Raiders on June

24. The Manila Raiders is a fully-equipped team based in the capital

city. They have access to equipment that we can only hope for at the

moment. The entire team is looking forward to this meet-up because the

Raiders have so kindly volunteered to lend us some of their gear for the

game. It will be our first time to use the equipment – the same day

that we will play. This meet-up is in preparation for a league

tentatively scheduled for December of this year.

We are counting

on your kindness and generosity to raise funds which we will use to

purchase decent equipment for practice. Donations in the form of actual

equipment will also be greatly appreciated. We are in need of the

following:

· Ladders
· Balls
· Hurdles
· foam pads
· Helmets
· Shoulder Pads
· Gloves
· Facemasks
· Cleats
· Full Bicep Pads
· Back Plates
· Chin Straps
· Funds for the field
· Guard Competition Cup
· Used Practice Uniforms
· Triangular Football Side Line Markers
· Footballs
· Football Girdles
· Football Helmet Jaw Pads
