Snail Farm Startup

We wish to express our intent to start a farming family business.

After 20 years of functioning our small family business, in tools and industrial safety supplies, it went bankrupted in a legal issue with a local government oil company 3 years ago. Our efforts to defend ourselves in such situation went not too far due to small enterprise will never survive against a public one. Since then, the family have been trying hard to maintain itself afloat and keep on date with the bills of such bad experience. Pitifully, is very difficult to suit people over 50 years old, without higher educational level, in any job and this end up worsening the family conditions within the years. Last year my father almost passed away due to a peritonitis which left him unable to work for several months. At the same time, we have been assisting helpless dogs and cats, providing them veterinary care and finding forever homes for them. These situations just left more debts and without the possibility to step out of the bad financial position by ourselves. Now, we would like to start a farming business but sadly, due to the current employment situation of the family members and the country economic circumstances, we can’t access a bank loan.

Our business intends is focused on snail farming. Your donation will allow us to start this venture that will not only accomplish our financial goals as family but also will help some other local people to have employment and continue our labor with strays. Even more will also help with conservation matters. How is this happening? Our family inherited years ago some land that is located in one of the most deforested areas in the country, which happens, is also an interesting area for local conservation plans. If enough funds are reached, our intention is to subscribe it as part of a local program of protected areas in which land use and hunting is forbidden, and find a better ecologically suited land for the farming.

The funds will be used in:

- Greenhouse building expenses,

- Land cleaning and plough, irrigation water pipes, irrigation system and drainages,

- Land external and internal (avoid animal escaping) fences,

- Brooders, their reproduction and maintenance.
