Smith Renovations

We are starting a family business, purchasing older homes; updating and improving them, then re-sellling them.  In all we have, myself (decor and business management); Phillip (plumbing, electrical and structural), Matt (landscaping), Jacob and Adam (general). My research indicates that several older homes in our area, are selling for under $40,000.  The median value in the area is $125,000 for homes.  We have also identified several homes for approximately $30,000 that simply need some updates and cosmetica care.  With our family venturing into the business, our overhead is cost of supplies only, until the house sells.  It was always our (my husband and I) intention to start a family business; however, we had to put it on hold shortly after we were married, when we were informed that his two sons (from first marriage) were removed from his ex-wife for abuse and neglect.  We spent the next two years and money getting full custody of both boys.  With medical and psychological care, we came up short of being able to fulfill the dream at that time.  In 2002, we welcomed our third son into the family, once again putting it on hold.  Our boys are now 20, 18 and 11.
