Im Randel Yu, MD an ENT-Facial plastic specialist had my training in Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center, I was an ex-Military Doctor. Philippines is a 3rd world country but primary health care services offered are at a 1st wolrd cost. Me and my partner a fellow ENT-Facial plastic surgeon are planning to build a Cleft Lip and Palate Aesthetic Center which would offer Cleft Lip and palate repair as well as other facial deformity for children and adult alike in our country (Philippines) we plan to make this as a charity work for the less fortunate. During my training I had encountered many patients whose parents are shy and afraid to seek consult for their childrens facial deformity in big health institutions. Thus we plan to offer a service which is accessible to the masses with quality service. I had a patient once, she was 12 and had a unilateral cleft lip and was constantly being bullied at school which manifested as a shy girl with low self esteem. We repaired the deformity but still she was shy, has low self-esteem and lack self confidence due to the long term effect of being bullied for the past years. Offering surgical repair at an earlier age would help other younger patients against bullying at a tender age and prevent emotional, psychological and physical trauma.
