Smile in Mosul:

A Documentary Film

In the north of Iraq, there is a refugee camp containing 3500 families.

The camp contains majority Kurdish people who have fled from the savage grip of ISIS. It is one of many dispersed around the country that is continually growing in numbers every day.

Men, woman and children who fought for their lives are now displaced and in need of your help, not only for basic necessities but also for psychological needs.

Living conditions on the barren plains of Iraq are brutal. Refugees have been left to survive in the harshest of elements. In this world food and water is a commodity, and merely living to breathe for the coming sunrise is considered a blessing.

Between 2017 and 2018 the United Nations cut the Iraqi support budget in half. The media is thinning out and the people are being forgotten. The rebuilding of infrastructure and the minds of the people of Iraq will take decades to repair.

My name is Andrew John Babbage. I am a freelance cinema photographer from New Zealand, and I am currently based in Sinai, Egypt. With the support raised through Gogetfunding, we hope to let people outside of Iraq see that the war is not yet finished – not only physically, but also mentally. We want to make a documentary about the hope of the people of Mosul! We will reveal their up-close and personal stories.

We want to shed light on the people of Iraq and bring forth a positive outlook while raising awareness of their continuing struggle.

*

In the coming september 2018, I am travelling to Iraq to begin my journey and documentation.

I hope to ring some media alarm bells and generate a global response to sending more aid and support for the people in need.

This is a non-profit project.

As much as I need your support for this project, these refugees need it more. Their options are tied and though they are doing everything in their power to escape their situation, they need all the outside support they can get.

Money from this fund will help with my travel expenses to get to Iraq, living costs, transportation of the materials, safety, translators and also with camera gear to shoot the film.

And also follow my documentation of the fundraiser and the trip itself on my Facebook page: Smile in Mosul.

I will provide a full and open record of the transactions to allow you to see clearly where the donations are going.

Anything you donate is helping a brother with a vision.

Thank you and peace to the world,

Andy
